Success isn't an overnight thing for this group, with its founding members first designing such curvaceous bean bags as early as 1998. The Ambient Lounge concept was borne out of a chance meeting of British, European and Antipodean designers ... and is now distributed throughout the globe to such culturally markets places as Saudi Arabia, Korea, China, Germany and South Africa. "It's really nice to see our hard work and dedication rewarded by fellow designers and progressive distribution channels worldwide..." Neri says wide-eyed. "This year is just the tip of the iceberg too, stay tuned to see what we do in the coming 18 months. We aim to further bridge the gap between bean bags and mainstream designer furniture for the young professionals and fashion conscious. "

Neri believes that having a young and diverse team from interior design, fashion design, graphic design and architectural backgrounds has helped the team stay on top of trends, colours and keep a good grounding with functional practicality. "Is it too much to ask for global domination?" she asks with a wry smile

Don’t think for a second that Ambient Lounge bean bags have anything in common with those you see on the side of the road. Those lumpy potato-shaped items are to the Ambient Lounge brand as plonk is to the finest Saxonburg Private Collection Cabernet Sauvignon 2003. So there. Lets put it this way; do you think those dusty bean bags would grace chill out zones for the likes of Nivea, Red Bull, Nissan and Mini Cooper? Thought not, but we’re told the Ambient Lounge bean bags or to be more precise bean bag loungers have found comfortable homes there as well as at designer clubs, cafes and luxury apartments. So they wont look out of place in your pad will they? Certainly not here at ‘charged’, where out studio lounger sample (designer around the natural seated curve of your body) brought a certain air of elegance and class and dare I even say comfort and chicness (is there such a word? Ed)

There are a number of different shapes and styles in the range, from the simple Zen to the Conversion Lounger, which transforms from a bean chair into a full-body chaise or sun-lounger. They’re available in a wide range of fabrics for indoor and outdoor living. An astonishing 280 litres (or so our resident scientist tells us) of flame retardant polystyrene beads fill out the insides of these loungers, which as the Ambient Lounge website puts it “massages our butts” and “make the bean bags blissful”. THE AMBIENT LOUNGE WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTORS are all giving each other some friendly banter and competition with each of their nation competing fiercely with each other in the Olympic Games in Beijing. Many of our offices are decked out with bean bags and widescreen LCD TV's, making it hard to concentrate on work with so many exciting competitions on.

Our Australian team are especially excited about the swimming, with Stephanie Rice already taking gold and Libby Trickett and Grant Hackett other famous names expected to do well.

We have a lot of competition from the Dutch, with our distributor in Amsterdam insisting that the sea of Orange will reign supreme in the pool and on the hockey field.

Our UK team already cheered home Nicole Cooke in the Woman’s road race but will be waiting on athletics for their best chance at more gold.

However, the biggest boasting will be done by our Chinese office, not only extremely proud of the wonderful cultural spectacle their nation is putting on for the world, but of their athletes who are dominating so many sports like gymnastics, diving, shooting and badminton. Well, having 1.3 billion people at your disposal sometimes has it’s advantages!

Ambient Lounge Ireland launched the new 2008 designer bean bag collection at the Furniture and Home Accessories Fair in Dublin and there was plenty of positive feedback from retailers, interior designers and indeed fellow exhibitors.
