Boardmasters and Famous Artists Chill backstage in the Ambient Lounge

rip curl boardmasters 2007
A great week was had by all down at the 2007 Rip Curl Boardmasters in Newquay, Cornwall and its a shame to come back to the reality of work and peak hour traffic.

In the wash up from the event, our team got the chance to hang out with a cool bunch of like-minded creative people, athletes and artists amidst a backdrop of some good summer weather, reasonable waves and a soothing breeze.

matt and kim
The sea of Ambient Lounge bean bags located in the Relentless sponsored artists area was where we found up & coming Punk popstars Matt & Kim, playing around out of the limelight. Kim was full of smiles and it was great to see this likable duo enjoying themselves both on and off the stage. Do yourself a favour and check out their website mattandkimmusic.com

Off we went to the main arena to check out some of our favourites like Scott Matthews, Paulo Nutini and Newton Faulkner perform. Paulos cover of Mobys Natural Blues and Scotts Elusive were personal highlights of the weekend and got the crowd buzzing. It was a shame that their managers wouldnt let us take pics of the guys lounging around on our gear - but you can take our word for it that they loved the palatial designer bean bag comforts that awaited them out the back.

If you get our drift, not even the friendly Ambient Lounge paparazzi were allowed to take photos in this VIP area. There were lots of oversized men patrolling the gates, with seemingly tighter security than if George Bush was taking a stroll down Baghdads main street!

ruarri joseph
Nonetheless, Ruarri Joseph, who released his debut album with Atlantic records in June, was happy for us to take some shots. Our Studio Lounger bean bags provided some well deserved relaxation time for RJ after an energised set. Check out his website ruarrijoseph.co.uk

Feeling exploratory, we then used our wristbands to great effect; randomly mixing it up with the young, friendly vibrant crowd of surfers, skaters and bmx riders together with those who were there purely for the music.

See you all next year!

Cool Kids Rooms - Your Home and Garden Magazine New Zealand

your home and garden

Ambient Lounge's Silver Cloud Studio Lounger was used to create the Industrial Look teenage boys bedroom in September's edition of Your Home and Garden magazine (NZ)

Cool Kids Rooms

The industrial look is perfect for growing boys keen on a room that feels a little more sophisticated than a dinosaur of space theme. Since boys aren't the best at keeping their rooms tidy, this look works well for minimising clutter as it provides lots of storage for their bits and pieces.

Stylist Trudie Kroef has used a teenager's artwork as the base of the room. This is a good way to personalise a room, but maintain some creative control over the colour scheme. The grey wall is the quintessential 'industrial' colour, but is still warm and inviting. For furniture, Trudie has used cardboard filling boxes, but you could incorporate used metal lockers for clothes, scaffolding for desks and beds and crates for coffee tables or books.

See our Xtreme bean bags unleashed at the 2007 Rip Curl Boardmasters Surf skate and Music Festival

ripcurl unleashed
This week down in Cornwall they're hosting Europe's biggest surf, skate and music festival with some of the biggest names of the waves, ramps and the stage battling it out in the sunshine in front of huge anticipated crowds.

We're excited to be a part of it all; teaming up with Relentless energy drinks and Rip Curl to have our outdoor bean bags sprawled around backstage and in the VIP and public areas providing well earned breathers for the hardcore crew to have a few drinks, kick back and relax.

Highlights (for our male staff) are going to be the bikini competition, the BMX competition and the beach music sessions featuring artists such as Paolo Nutini & Scott Matthews (who like many others will be kicking back on our bean bags when not on stage). Of course the main event will be the Mens and Womens World Qualifying series surfing events, featuring some of the worlds best surfers, battling their way through grueling heats in hopes of reaching the final and claiming top whack of the $100,000 prize purse!

If were not too in awe, we might even get the chance to go down and have a surf on a back beach in the morning!

The multi faceted event runs from 6th 12th August. So strap your board to the top of your van, get your skates on and get down to Cornwall for an action packed week of eye candy, tunes and sports.

Big Chill Music Festival 2007 - cathartic for the Body and Soul

big chill 2007
The sun was shining down at Eastnor for the 2007 Big Chill Festival and there was no better place in the UK to be than the beautiful rolling hills amongst a comfortable crowd of happy music revellers.

For the second year in a row, we teamed up with the wonderful Body and Soul community to provide comfy designer bean bags all day and all night long; perfect for those that sought refuge from the main stages.

viva la vida cafe
Instead of a stand alone outdoor chill out area, this year we spread our conversion loungers and Studio Loungers around the front and interior of the wonderful Viva La Vida Caf, which proved to be one of the hot spots of the entire festival. A combination of delicious food and (just as tasty) eclectic live music made the caf a place to be from the early recovery hours of the morning until deep into the night.

For the Ambient Team, there was an overwhelming positive energy in the air which was both uplifting and refreshing in the wake of our busy lives. We'd like to thank all of those random Big Chillers and interesting characters who helped keep a smile on our face throughout the three days and nights.

A massive highlight was the questionable fashion wandering around the festival- which was so wrong that it was right! It was also nice to see some of the more up and coming music acts plant the seed of their aspiring careers with some inspiring performances.

Finally, a very special thanks to Avril Stanley and her dedicated and dynamic team of professional therapists & kindred spirits that make up the Body & Soul crew. They create 'Healing Areas' at festivals throughout the United Kingdom and abroad - involving all types of bodywork, workshops, nourishing food and music. You can visit them here (www.realease.co.uk) to find out more about what they do and get involved.

Its empowering to be around such creativity and we hope to be back again next year. We really do feel - literally - like part of the furniture.

Ambient Lounge brings CALM to another festival

CALMzone
Merseysides newest music event, Knowsley Hall Music Festival featured not only headliners like the Who and Keane but a Chill Out tent furnished with a dozen of our finest Studio Loungers and hosted by our new friends CALM.

We got involved when the Merseyside CALMzone co-ordinator, Simon Howes contacted us. I wanted to make sure we created a cool chill out area that punters could relax in in-between bands and when I saw the Ambient Lounge website I knew we had found what we were looking for! he said.

Organisers behind the 2 day festival are local party veterans Cream, one of the most successful clubbing brands of the past decade. The have worked with the CALM team for years on other events and where more than happy to make space for another marquee on the large rural site. The result was funky oasis of chill, providing comfort for over 800 music fans.

Whats also really interested us, is the motivation behind CALMs work at event like this. CALM actually stands for the Campaign Against Living Miserably and is primarily aimed at men aged 15 35. Why? Because, on average 3 of them kill themselves everyday in England & Wales. Shocking stuff and something most of us either dont know or dont know what to do about. CALMs response is to create a dynamic and interesting brand that is seen by young men at events like these and encourage lads to open up and not believe in the strong-silent-type myth. Weve been impressed by their creative response to such a scarcely talked about topic...
