How to Tackle Impromptu Gatherings

November 13th, 2009 by Designer Bean Bags

I have never been one for surprise guests, so I prepared myself with outdoor bean bags for just such an occasion. It was one of a couple of precautionary steps I have taken to avoid being ill-equipped. Since meeting my husband, I have had to learn to be ready for the unexpected dinner invitee and the impromptu jam session. As a musician, it just seems to be in his nature to go with the flow and acquire friends at every juncture.

For me, to be unprepared goes against every fiber of my being. Before Richard and I joined forces, the thought of last minute gatherings made me break into a sweat. It is not so much that I am an introvert, it is more the idea of lapsing in my role as hostess. I do in fact enjoy the way Rich makes a random Wednesday evening into a night of musical delights and good times. But if I had not armed myself with extra seating that can be pulled inside from our patio, frozen appetizers, and a stocked wine cooler I would be constantly at odds with him. It has definitely been a growth process.
